上海國(guó)際醫(yī)學(xué)園區(qū)以先進(jìn)醫(yī)療器械制造業(yè)和現(xiàn)代醫(yī)療服務(wù)業(yè)為核心并涉足醫(yī)藥研發(fā)、銷(xiāo)售和生物醫(yī)藥服務(wù)外包等領(lǐng)域，以打造高科技醫(yī)療器械及生物醫(yī)藥產(chǎn)業(yè)基地和高端醫(yī)療服務(wù)平臺(tái)為目標(biāo)，力爭(zhēng)建成一座環(huán)境優(yōu)美、科技領(lǐng)先、生態(tài)和諧的現(xiàn)代化醫(yī)學(xué)科學(xué)城。整個(gè)園區(qū)占地11.8平方公里，其中公共綠地212公頃（2.12平方公里）。根據(jù)兩大核心產(chǎn)業(yè)定位，融合現(xiàn)代的規(guī)劃理念，科學(xué)地將上海國(guó)際醫(yī)學(xué)園區(qū)分為六個(gè)主要功能區(qū)，包括：醫(yī)療器械及生物醫(yī)藥產(chǎn)業(yè)區(qū)、醫(yī)學(xué)研發(fā)區(qū)、國(guó)際醫(yī)院區(qū)、國(guó)際康復(fù)區(qū)、醫(yī)學(xué)院校區(qū)和國(guó)際商務(wù)區(qū)。

各個(gè)功能區(qū)形成了功能互補(bǔ)、資源共享的有機(jī)整體。并和諧地構(gòu)筑起了醫(yī)療器械及生物醫(yī)藥和現(xiàn)代醫(yī)療服務(wù)兩條完整的產(chǎn)業(yè)鏈。自2005年園區(qū)開(kāi)發(fā)建設(shè)正式啟動(dòng)至今，園區(qū)始終秉承著高起點(diǎn)、高標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施和服務(wù)平臺(tái)建設(shè)，迅速吸引了包括全球醫(yī)療設(shè)備三巨頭之一西門(mén)子醫(yī)療亞洲科技園，德?tīng)柛瘢ㄡt(yī)療）上海有限公司，上海先聲藥業(yè)有限公司，上海華誼生物技術(shù)有限公司，上海常隆生命醫(yī)學(xué)科技有限公司等數(shù)十家醫(yī)療器械及醫(yī)藥企業(yè)。隨著產(chǎn)業(yè)能級(jí)的提升，園區(qū)越來(lái)越注重現(xiàn)代服務(wù)業(yè)的配套建設(shè)，現(xiàn)已被列為市生產(chǎn)性服務(wù)業(yè)示范功能區(qū)之一。園區(qū)專辟了醫(yī)谷商務(wù)園、留學(xué)生創(chuàng)業(yè)園、產(chǎn)學(xué)研基地等項(xiàng)目，為致力于醫(yī)學(xué)相關(guān)產(chǎn)業(yè)的歸國(guó)人士及中小企業(yè)創(chuàng)業(yè)者創(chuàng)造了施展才華的空間和舞臺(tái)。而在現(xiàn)代醫(yī)療服務(wù)產(chǎn)業(yè)方面，作為上海“十一五”重點(diǎn)工程項(xiàng)目的上海質(zhì)子重離子治療中心已開(kāi)工建設(shè)，此外中德友好醫(yī)院、日本德泰口腔醫(yī)院等也相繼入駐。

Shanghai International Medical Zone (SIMZ) is a new-concept medical scientific zone under the support of National Ministry of Health (MOH) and ratification of Shanghai Municipal Government. It has become a tower of strength to support Shanghai in becoming the medical center of Asia.

SIMZ has two core industries – advanced medical device manufacturing and modern medical service industry, surrounding which, fields like pharmaceuticals R&D, sales as well as CRO have made rapid growth. SIMZ targets to become an environment-friendly, technology leading, and ecologically harmonious modern medical city that delivers high-end healthcare services and attracts medical devices and bio-medicine businesses with cutting-edge technologies. It covers an area of 11.8 km2, among which, 2.12 km2 are public green field. Centering two core industries, it has into six functional areas: the International Hospital Center, the Industrial Area for Medical Devices and Biomedicine, the International Medical Campus, the Clinical/Medical Research Park, the International Rehabilitation Center, and the International Business Center.

The six areas supplement each other in both functions and resources, thus forming the two complete industry chains in harmony - the Modern Medical Services, and the Medical Devices and Bio-medicine manufacture. Since it started development and construction in 2005, SIMZ has set up high standard infrastructure and service platform to attract world-renowned enterprises, including: Siemens Medical Asia Center of Excellence, Shanghai Draeger Medical Instrument, Shanghai Simcere Pharmaceutical, Shanghai Huayi (Group), Shanghai ChangLong Life Science R&D Center, etc. While upgrading industries capability, the zone is putting more efforts on the development of supporting facilities for modern service industry. Now it has been entitled as one of the municipal producer service demonstrative zones. SIMZ has developed several projects: the Modern Business Park, the Pioneer Park for Overseas Returnees, and the Manufacture & Education & Research Base. Those are set up specifically to help overseas medical professionals and entrepreneurs of small and medium companies with their business development. In terms of modern healthcare service industry, a major healthcare project in the eleventh five-year plan of Shanghai Municipal Government, Proton and Heavy Ion Treatment Center, is under construction.
